Today, all over the world we are teaching discipline to everybody, particularly to the children but never raise a question regarding the root of discipline. Ask yourself! Discipline is a product of what? Discipline is a product of purpose. The real need is to inculcate purpose in our children, not to enforce discipline. When there is purpose discipline will naturally emerge.
Rig Veda says, “Love begets love; respect
reciprocate”.
When man is showing respect, often, there will be concealment. When there is concealment there will be fear of prestige. This prestige generates identity crisis and identity crisis creates division. Thus, there will be a permanent inner disorder. This disorder generates contradiction, which in turn causes confusion. Confusion produces two basic responses: one to learn and the other to surrender. All these are the battle between the conscience and selfishness. In this process, deviation from the conscience gives birth to guilt and to settle this guilt selfishness directs one towards God. In temples, churches and mosques there is nothing new, except the dumping of one's mistakes, problems, sins and helplessness on God. We are doing so because at present God is the easily available product in the market.
We seek God for our personal order, not for the universal order. We worship only to attain salvation, heaven and own peace. The root of all these actions, prayers or meditations is a self-centred value with a profit motive. Nevertheless, God is neither an ideal feeling nor a product to be worshiped. It is the Truth and there is no meaning in worshiping Truth. It is something to be internalised. Truth is like a fire that burns paper but strengthens the earthen pot. Only a truly honest and unselfish mind can hold this fire.
