Customer Review: This book didn't make me laugh and it provided no helpful information. I thought I would appreciate Jenny's point of view and at least chuckle once or twice, but no. It wasn't funny, wasn't well written, and mostly I thought she made pregnancy and labor sound horrible. You can't say all those negative things and then wrap it all up simply by saying "Despite all that, it is the most beautiful thing you'll ever do". Don't waste your money. (At least I got mine from a free pile.)

Customer Review: About: Goldman took five years talking to women in her gym locker room about their bodies.
Pros: The closest I'll ever get to a female locker room. Eye opening looking at how similar women seem to be in their views of body image, which is also kind of disheartening.
Cons: Since Goldman only concentrated on her own gym (which seems like an "easy way out" in terms of researching a book to me) I cannot help but wonder if the information gleaned from her interviews is skewed and inapplicable to the outside world due to her myopic sample (it seems as if most of them had or have an eating disorder). It would have been nice for her to break up her rapid-fire excerpts of interviews with same data and analysis to provide a balance (when she does provide data such as statistics, sources are not cited). Also, in terms of balance, an "outsider's view" such as talking to a few men or non-gym users would have been welcome. Goldman's flighty tone can seem out of place, especially in her conclusion, where she notes that she would like the unhealthy preoccupation with body image to lessen. But she provides no suggestions about how to make this happen and her facetious asides take away from this "time to be serious" moment.

Customer Review: Phoenix deserves to be heralded as a researcher and author who could reverse our obesity epidemic (childhood and adult), one previously failed dieter at a time. Strong words, perhaps, but her book, "diet failure...the Naked Truth", in a thoroughly readable Q&A format, details the reasons why almost all diets fail, and how you and I can lose weight and keep it off PERMANENTLY.
Phoenix has decades of experience in the health and wellness field and with her years of research for this book, as detailed in the extensive reference section, she has provided scientific evidence for her findings. In her book, Gilman unveils the link between brain chemistry and the cravings that ultimately derail almost all diet attempts. By revealing the foods and additives (such as high fructose corn syrup) that create the cravings, the reader (myself included) can see how eliminating such foods, one can eliminate the cravings - and never have to battle the weight loss/weight gain roller-coaster again. Better yet, Phoenix's research shows how following her approach can assist those with other health problems from diabetes to depression.
In "diet failure...the Naked Truth" Gilman bravely takes on the food, pharmaceutical, and diet industries in such a way that will recall how America was manipulated by the tobacco companies for so many years.
Personally, I credit Phoenix Gilman for providing the research that has enabled me to maintain my 90lb weight loss and get off caffeine! More than that, she has been one of my most requested interview guests having helped listeners and callers from coast to coast.
"diet failure...the Naked Truth" is, and will remain, one of the most important books on the subject of cravings, food addiction, and permanent weight loss you will ever read and re-read, and you, too, will thank Phoenix Gilman for her invaluable work.

Customer Review: Medicine's snails pace depsite enormous expenditures on things like cancer research has always baffled me as a lay person... that similarity to Kessler made me appreciate his search. As one reviewer noted, this would have been a good long version article vs. a book. To cut to the chase, his search ends with early detection being the holy grail, with the "end of medicine" at least 5 years away, and probably 10 to 20 years. It's a quick and reasonably interesting read for other lay people. I doubt medical professionals would find it all that interesting.

Customer Review: David Wolfe is a charlatan of the highest order, capitalizing on the new age health food craze and creating addictions out of people seeking another high.
I don't recommend touching this book with a ten foot pole, unless you want to be sold on a life of addiction to raw chocolate.
Not to mention his Raw Chocolate products(the only safe ones to consume, according to him) have HUGE margins built into them.
A mere POUND of chocolate goes for over $25 on his site. For those who don't know, you could not find one other retailer who sells chocolate for that amount of money. It is comparable to selling a pound of cashews for $25. If you saw it in a store you would say that it is ridiculous, and it is.
