The Bowflex Body Plan by Ellington Darden Amazon Price: $19.77
Customer Review: This book contains much useful information but is severely outdated. Bowflex no longer makes the equipment featured in this book. If you have the manuals and DVD that came with your Bowflex, you probably don't need this book.
Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff by Jim Johnson Amazon Price: $21.56
Customer Review: After two weeks of following the exercises in this book, I made more progress than six weeks of PT. I like this book because not only does the author explain what to do, he also explains WHY.
The Great Balance and Stability Handbook by Andre Noel Potvin, Chad Benson Amazon Price: $8.95
Customer Review: This packs a big wallop in a small paperback volume. These exercises are concise, separated into nice sections that make sense. And, there a lots of them to choose from. When you open the book, at first you may think, "this is it?". Look again, and look inside. I was happily surprised and pleased at the amount of information and exercises presented for balance training with 3 different equipment options.
A Pilates' Primer : The Millennium Edition by Joseph Pilates, Judd Robbins Amazon Price: $15.95
Customer Review: If you want pictures of Joseph Pilates doing a lot of his basic exercises and if you want a short explanation of his ideas in his own words, then this is worth the price. Nothing about his machine/s however. Just mat pilates.
Get on the Ball: Develop a Strong, Lean and Toned Body with an Exercise Ball by Lisa Westlake Amazon Price: $10.17
Customer Review: I got this book because I needed something that I could do at home, since the demands of my job and the long commute have effectively eliminated my time to get to the gym. I made a really good choice in deciding to go with exercise ball training. It is more intense than anything I have done before, though people need to be aware that, in and of itself, this is not a weight-training/bodybuilding program. Combining it with a free weights program would be amazing, but don't expect to look like Rusty Joiner just doing these exercises and using 10lb dumbbells. I only have two issues with the book, one of which has been mentioned before:
1. There needs to be more photos/diagrams explaining the exercises other than just one monochromatic photo. Actually, a dvd companion would be the icing on the cake!
2. In the opening, they discuss everything about the accessories needed, how to inflate the ball, and needing to choose one that is the right size for your height...but NEVER actually tell you what sizes are for what heights. All it says is that your knees should be in a 90 degree angle when sitting on it. Unfortunately, these things usually come deflated in boxes, and I don't want to do the trial-and error method. While I am sure I can find it on Google or something, it would have been really nice if they had included a chart when they talked about inflating it...
Overall, it is a great book and program I would recommend. I was an athletic trainer years ago, and we used these things for rehab and balance training...it is nice to see them pushed out into the public sector in a professional manner.
Fitness Cycling by Dede Demet Barry, Michael Barry, Shannon, M.D. Sovndal Amazon Price: $11.53
Customer Review: I recommend this book to any cyclists interested in racing or fitness. If you ride for fun, this book is probably the only fitness book you will need for cycling. If you are planning on racing, but you don't know much about cycling training, this is an excellent book to start with.
This book is divided into two parts.
The first part introduces the rider to cycling fitness, and how it is accomplished. This involves explaining your max heart rate, VO2 max, and lactate threshold. It also explains the basics of cycling fitness, such as building a base, increasing speed, and raising your lactate threshold.
The second part of the book gives three 30 week workout plans, building towards some sort of event or race. The three workout plans are aimed at beginners, intermediate bikers, and more advanced riders.
This book does not emphasize power meters, but it does recommend a heart rate monitor. It also rates workouts according to perceived effort.
This is a good book.

8 Minutes in the Morning for Extra-Easy Weight Loss: Guaranteed to shed 2 pou... by Jorge Cruise Amazon Price: $10.17
Customer Review: This is NOT a serious physical conditioning book. One should not expect to gain serious strength, speed and stamina from this routine. However, anyone with an aversion to exercise should read this book. It is too damn simple to brush off. While the serious athlete might ignore it, there is still a ton of good simple advice throughout the whole manual. Jorge comes across like a nice-guy trainer, who makes exercising so simple to follow. I would highly recommend it to all beginners.

Body Bar: 133 Moves for Full-Body Fitness by Gregg Cook, Fatima d'Almeida-Cook Amazon Price: $10.36
Customer Review: Wow.. this is great! There are picture illustrations for both starting and ending positions, and additional pictures showing additional moves to make them tougher or easier. And you can combine different moves into one continuous multi-tasking combo exercise.
Walking for Fitness by Lon H Seiger, James Hesson Amazon Price: $34.69
Customer Review: This college textbook is a concise but comprehensive guide to starting a walking program. The book highlights everything you should know about walking. The writing flows nicely and is easy to follow. The topics are reinforced by diagrams and photographs in every chapter. The books give a complete overview of how walking can lead to total health and wellness.
