Customer Review: If you have never read The South Beach Diet, buy this book instead: It's much more helpful due to the exercise section and latest research on healthy eating and physical activity. If you already have a copy of The South Beach Diet, you need to buy this one as well so you can do the exercises.
I'm a big fan of The South Beach Diet. It helped me lose a lot of weight when nothing else worked. I felt comfortable losing the weight and looked great when I was done, rather than like a survivor of starvation. Whenever I gained a bit of weight since then, returning to Phase 1 quickly took it off.
But there was a problem: I clearly wasn't exercising enough. In the past, I've done a lot of walking and weight lifting . . . but I didn't get much benefit in terms of medical measures like reduced triglycerides. In fact, eating oatmeal and taking omega-3 supplements does more for my cholesterol level than exercise. I know that I need something different.
My eyes opened wide when I got to the section of this book that talked about how moderate amounts of walking (20 minutes every other day) with short intervals of fast movement spaced between moderate walking would do me more good for burning fat than doing all that walking that I used to do at one speed. Now, that sounded great!
Between walking days, you do some moderate body toning. Here is where I had some concerns about the book: The photographs show a lot of stress being put on the back. That's not a good idea for me: I have back problems. I'm not quite sure what to do, but I've ordered the DVD to see how these exercises are to be done and hope there will be detailed instructions there for people with bad backs.
In this book, Dr. Agatston does a good job of describing the various physical ills in joints and feet that baby boomers develop from the wrong kinds of activity and exercise. He even helped me understand how I create vast shoulder pain when I shovel snow the wrong way . . . and now I know what not to do.
If you are under 30, you can probably use this book just as is. If you are older, be careful with the body toning!

The book is great for explaining how your body interacts with food and it breaks down the body system in an easy way to understand. Very good read.

Customer Review: Where do I begin? Devin has done it again! The "Most Decadent Diet Ever" is one of a kind. I have tons of diet/lowfat cookbooks at home and this book is the first one I've used where I have basically been stumped into thinking that the recipes are fatty. The recipes are loaded with taste and flavor which give off a fatty impression.
And she doesn't use any processed or fake ingredients like some of the other cookbooks out use.
I've made a bunch of recipes so far and every single one of them blew me away. The Chicken Picata is out of this world and tastes so much like the real full fat version, and all the desserts are killer!

I've been looking for a half decent Quinoa recipe for ages.
I can see me throwing out all other 'bad' eating cookbooks and just using this one. This book is for everyone that wants to be healthy.
The recipes are the sorts of foods I have been avoiding, because they are high in fat, but Tosca give you a healthy alternative. The recipes are not complicated, there is even a HEALTHY Christmas menu, which I will enjoy using this year.
I love this book.

Customer Review: I received this cookbook as a gift and have worn it out over the last year. My husband and I have tried and enjoyed just about every recipe inside. There are of course a few that didn't make our favorites list, but overall this is a fantastic collection of meal ideas. We never felt like we were sacrificing taste in order to eat healthy. I used it all through the winter and just cooked on the stove top vs. the BBQ grill and it worked great! I have read quite a few cookbooks and this one is by the far the best I have seen.

Customer Review: My pediatrician said I have to get my daughter to eat more fruits and veggies. the only fruits she eats willingly are bananas and apples, she refuses all veggies except the occasional carrot and potato. So, I bought this book and the Seinfeld book. I tried the Power pizza recipe - she loved it, devoured it! I even added some of the green puree for a little extra nutrional value. Hubby said he could "taste the texture" of the bean puree, but I didn't. Now, I can feel better about my toddler eating pizza.
I agree that I would prefer if she just ate a handful of carrots, or broccoli, etc, but she won't. So, this way, she is eating things she likes (pizza, mac 'n' cheese, etc) and getting some nutrional value out of it. Of course, I still encourage her to eat veggies (I even cut up cucumber and bell pepper with cookie cutters to make them more intriguing - she was excited by the shapes, but not enough to tempt her pallate). So, purees it is, at least until her tastes change and she starts eating veggies.
