Now I want the author to write a similar book about the GenoType diet and food combining.
I liked the way this book was written as you also had the benefit of someone else's experience, not just the author's information.

Customer Review: Once more, with feeling! Damned if Dr. Gould didn't do it again, or, more accurately, kept right on doing it. In this eighth collection of his monthly essays from Natural History magazine, Stephen Jay Gould continued his exploration of how science works (and doesn't). His reading and comprehension of history, both natural and social, produce delicious juxtaposition, insight and humor. Month after month in what became the longest running science commentary series ever to see print. Gould is adept at finding the particular instance which illustrates the general, and discerning errors of presupposition which stymie or paradoxically further scientific inquiry. In one of the title essays of this collection, for example, he demonstrates that Leonardo Da Vinci's motive for analysis of fossil clams -- a study which appears in retrospect to be marvelously modern and ahead of his time -- was offered in defense of an extremely antiquated and fallacious view of the earth as a living body. In other words, Leonardo got the right answer for the wrong reason, and though he knew his view of the earth was flawed, he never got beyond his backward bias. So, while we tend to view Da Vinci as a prescient wizard, he was perhaps more of an obsessed antiquarian, albeit a brilliant one. Great stuff in here about dodoes and Irish elk, neanderthals and missing links, princes and principles, with the arts, artists and religious texts thrown in for good measure. As I have said before ( see reviews of BULLY FOR BRONTOSAURUS, W.W. Norton & Company, 1991, and QUESTIONING THE MILLENNIUM, Harmony Books, 1997), Gould was one of our greatest modern essayists.

Customer Review: In one of the most stimulating and informative books you will ever encounter, Wishart provides the clearest possible description of: a)what cancer is, i.e. from the first aberrant cell mutations to the eventual metastasis that eventually kills us; and b) the hundreds-year old history of approaches to treatment and prevention. Interwoven throughout is the poignant gripping story of his revered father's ordeal with prostate cancer to which he succumbs within about a year of its first diagnois -- a tortuous saga that prompted Wishart's investigation into cancer's history and prognosis for cure. I was left with both unsettling awe and despair after I put down this book: awe at the many genius scientists Wishart depicts who have achieved near-miraculous breakthroughs in cancer-remediating drugs; despair over the seeming impossibility of ever eradicating a disease which the author traces to the "constant bombardment" throughout life sustained by every one of our "ten million million cells"; during our lives there are "100 million million" cell divisions and "for cancer to begin there need be only one malignant cell that copies itself in a chaotic and uncontrollable way; with every duplication its dangerous characteristics are passed on to its offspring and a single aberration becomes a cluster, then a lump, then a tumor." It was especially sobering to learn that the dying man's prostate tumor origin was completely undetectable until his autopsy, a PSA screening test within months of his death yielding an absurdly false negative result of just 1. In sum, be prepared on reading this book to conclude that outliving cancer is as likely as winning the lottery year after year after year. If you ever fantasized about dodging the cancer bullet, you will think twice, but that could be just the insight you need to make the most out of every remaining minute you have!

Customer Review: Audre Lorde gives a good idea of exactly what she's feeling in her journals, even down to the negative aspects of her disease that some would more than likely keep to themselves. I appreciate her frankness and willingness to open up to other women thinking the same things.
The thoughts bounced around a bit but overall I appreciate her putting her journey into words.

Customer Review: This book is a huge disappoinment. Amir goes to great length to let us know, in excruiating detail--- the dates, times, places, doctors, wife, co-workers, etc, and all the other details of his own pain, for half the book! His ideas of a "bad" sub-concious that is repressed and the cause of all our misery, and must be punished, is just plain wrong! And his suggestions to reward ourselves (even with ice cream, no less!)for a pain free period, is just silly and childish.
Amir bases his theory on the work of Dr. Sarno, as he was helped by him. But, he strayed far away. Amir should have just recommended Dr. Sarno's book for those suffering with pain. It would be a much better service to others who are also suffering. It was a waste of my money and time to read the book.
