Pterostilbene. Speaking of an experimental study, Agnes M. Rimando, a research chemist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service, said, "I compared pterostilbene with ciprofibrate [a cholesterol-lowering drug] and found that actually pterostilbene is a little bit better." Moreover, it appears that pterostilbene is as effective as resveratrol in preventing cancer, as both have shown similar results in lab tests.

Sulforaphane. Researchers have concluded that sulforaphane may help treat or prevent infection by H. pylori, a primary cause of ulcers. Scientists have also found that sulforaphane boosts the body's detoxification enzymes, helping clear potentially carcinogenic substances more quickly. Sulforaphane may offer special protection to those genetically more susceptible to colon cancer, according to a study conducted at Rutgers University and published online in the journal Carcinogenesis. As a further bonus, research conducted at John's Hopkins University and published in Cancer Letters indicates sulforaphane can help repair sun-damaged skin.

Vitamins

Vitamin A (Retinol and Beta-Carotene). Our bodies use vitamin A to make rhodopsin, the pigment that helps us see in the dark. This key vitamin also helps the mucous membranes of the mouth, respiratory, digestive, and reproductive systems to stay moist, preventing intrusion of infectious organisms and contaminating toxins. In addition, vitamin A helps tissues heal after inflammation or infection.
