Our body’s defenses are strong in youth, but as we age they weaken. We can see the effects of the damage from free radical oxidation. For example, wrinkles are one sign of skin cell damage. Free radicals have also been linked to heart disease and some type of cancers, as well as obesity.
The body's defenses can only do so much without the aid of reinforcements. You can help by sending in the antioxidants. To do so, consistently eat a variety of fruits and vegetables with intensely bright colors. Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released new guidelines that recommended we eat between five and nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
Antioxidants come in a brilliant rainbow. Eat greens in the form of broccoli, spinach, and dark green lettuces. For reds, raspberries, grapes, and strawberries are best, and tomatoes are terrific. Sweet potatoes, oranges, and squash are all shining examples among the orange and yellow foods. Blue or purple foods can be especially beneficial, so be sure to have eggplant, concord grapes, and blueberries as often as you can. These blue beauties contain healthful chemicals not found anywhere else. I eat blueberries with my oatmeal for breakfast every morning and you should too. The fruits and vegetables listed in the Magnetic Diet shopping list are a great place to start. Each one is high in antioxidants.

Anthocyanins. Anthocyanins occur in the reddish-blue pigments of berries and some fruits and vegetables. They have incredible antioxidant properties and are 20-50 times stronger than the antioxidant vitamins C and E.
