The energization exercise routine is essentially contracting/flexing and then relaxing different parts of the body, coordinated with deep breathing and a very specific visualization. It is an excellent way to prepare both the body and the mind for visualization and meditation. Practice the energization exercises daily over time and you will actually become aware of and gain control of the energy flow in your body.

To perform the exercises, stand with your arms at your sides and your feet apart. Hold each tension sequence for 15-20 seconds and then relax for about half that time. Tense by flexing the muscles as powerfully as you can without hurting yourself. At the same time, inhale and imagine a stream of energy entering at the base of your skull and traveling to the areas tensed. When you tense, flex the muscle, focusing intently with your mind. After you understand how to do this properly, the area being tensed should actually begin to vibrate. When you release the tension, exhale, relax the area, and strive to feel the sensation that is left over.

Perform the energization exercises as follows:

1. Begin by flexing the muscles of the face with an exaggerated smile that borders on a grimace. Hold for 15-20 seconds, imagining a stream of energy entering the back of your head and spreading into your face. Then relax and feel what I can only describe as a sort of buzzing sensation.

2. Next, move to the neck, tensing the throat and the front of the neck. Hold for 15-20 seconds, imagining a stream of energy entering the back of your head and spreading into your neck. Then relax and feel.

3. Move to the back of the neck, tensing and relaxing the muscles of the base of the skull and the rear of the neck. Hold for 15-20 seconds, imagining a stream of energy entering the back of your head and spreading into your neck. Then relax and feel.

4. Raise your shoulders up to your ears and flex the trapezius muscles, which run from the base of your neck out to your shoulders.
